The Color the Sight Word Activity is designed to help your children identify sight words through word and letter recognition. Practicing saying the words with your child/ren as they move through this activity will also enhance their sight word recognition and reading abilities.

Sight words are words in the English language that:

Sight words are taught as a whole rather than being decoded, or broken down by syllable or phonetics as we do with other words.

Essentially, they are words that children should memorize to help them learn to read and write. These words are ones that a child should be able to see at a glance and recognize, typically within 3 seconds of seeing the word.

These words are incredibly common in the English language and are typically easier to learn how to read and write than larger vocabulary.

In my opinion, sight words are incredible confidence boosters for children as they learn how to read and write. Since these words are simple and easy to pronounce, read, and write, learning these words first are a great way to boost your child’s confidence as they develop these important skills and move on to larger and more difficult words.
